How the programme works

A playful first step into gymnastics with climbing, rolling, jumping, balancing and age-appropriate apparatus. Coaches use staged progressions and adapt activities to the participant's current confidence and ability. Safe technique comes before speed or difficulty.

Sessions combine purposeful repetition with variety, so participants can consolidate skills while continuing to enjoy movement and build independence.

KinderGym choices

Choose the right amount of independence

Play

Parent/carer on the floor.

An open, unstructured session. Children move around the Gymnasium at their own pace and choose the activities that suit them, using a casual pass.

Parent Assisted

Parent/carer on the floor.

Structured class with adult support.

Independent

Participant works with the coach.

For children ready to take part without a parent/carer on the floor.

Thunder is on the second storey and pram access is limited, so it is best to leave prams at home where practical. A baby-change table is available in the change rooms.

If you are unsure about readiness, choose “Not sure” in the class finder or ask the office. The search should show appropriate options rather than returning a false zero-result.

Questions

Before you book

Does the participant need gymnastics experience?

No. Recreational classes begin from the participant's current stage and use clear progressions.

How is age calculated?

Thunder's public cohort labels are the main guide. The iClass portal can use broader administrative eligibility ranges to support placement and transitions.

Can we join mid-term?

Yes, where a suitable class has a place. Fees begin from the participant's starting week.

KinderGym at Thunder Gymnastics

Our KinderGym programme helps babies, toddlers and preschoolers develop confidence, coordination, balance and strength through fun, age-appropriate gymnastics activities. Every class is designed to encourage movement, learning and independence in a safe, welcoming environment.

Not sure which class is right?

KinderGym Play (Under 5)

Perfect for families wanting relaxed play time together. Children can bounce, climb, swing, crawl and explore the gym with a parent or caregiver nearby.

Parent Participation

Parent Assisted classes require one adult to actively participate with their child throughout the lesson. Independent classes are designed for children who are confident participating with one of our coaches.

For safety and supervision we recommend no more than two children per adult in parent-assisted sessions.
